Paul Merriman is a nationally recognized authority on mutual funds, index investing and asset allocation. After retiring in 2012 from Merriman Wealth Management — which he founded in 1983 — Paul created The Merriman Financial Education Foundation, dedicated to providing investors of all ages with free information and tools to make informed decisions in their own best interest.
Paul is the author of eight books, including We're Talking Millions! 12 Simple Ways to Supercharge Your Retirement ; Financial Fitness Forever: 5 Steps to More Money, Less Risk, and More Peace of Mind ; Live It Up Without Outliving Your Money ; and the How To Invest series.
He writes a regular column for The Dow Jones & Company's MarketWatch.com and produces a multi-award-winning weekly podcast, Sound Investing , named by Money magazine (2008) as the best money podcast. Subscribers to his free weekly newsletter number more than 44,000. He has led more than 1,000 investor workshops and has been a featured guest on national TV shows and many investment-related podcasts.
He has addressed nearly all local chapters of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), in addition to numerous student, educator and investor associations and programs. He was a featured speaker at the 2023 and 2024 Boglehead Conferences. The Foundation also supports the curriculum development and presentation of an accredited course, Personal Investing 216 , at Paul's alma mater, Western Washington University.

In 2024, Western Washington University established the Merriman Financial Literacy Program. Its goal: to provide every Western student the most important financial tools to use in reaching their lifetime financial goals. Paul and his wife Zan split their life between Portland, Oregon and Rancho Mirage, California.
