Errata and Corrections

  • In Chapter 15, "My 500-Year Plan," on Page 215 the charitable "dividend" 100 years after my death of $2,362,753 would be nearly 60 percent (instead of nearly 50 percent), based on the presumed $4 million left in my will.
  • In May 2005, Fidelity Investments closed its Fidelity International Small-Cap Fund (FISMX) to new investors after reaching nearly $2.1 billion in assets since the fund opened in September 2002. This left one less option for investors who want to include international small-cap stocks in their portfolios.

We have updated our Fidelity Suggested Portfolios to reflect this change.
  • Vanguard has changed the name of its Short-Term Corporate fund (VFSTX). The fund is now Vanguard Short-Term Investment-Grade Fund. The ticker symbol is the same.
  • An error in Table 13.1: On page 178 of the first printing of “Live It Up without Outliving Your Money,” the hypothetical scenario illustrated in Table 13.1 contains a math error in the way returns were calculated. The returns indicated in the table would not cause the portfolio to run out of money. (read more)
